I am a farm boy from North Dakota who had the good fortune to attend and graduate from North Dakota State University in Fargo, North Dakota, and then Southern Methodist University School of Law in Dallas, Texas. In September, 1979, I tried and won my first ever jury trial as a senior law student in the Criminal Clinic program at SMU. I graduated from SMU in 1980, and as a trial lawyer I have been helping persons charged with crimes and persons injured ever since. In August, 1997, I had more good fortune to attend and graduate from Gerry Spence’s Trial Lawyer’s College at his ranch near Dubois, Wyoming.
It is the responsibility of a trial lawyer to listen carefully to the client’s story, to fully prepare the client’s case, and then communicate the client’s true story and case to the jury.
I am a founding member and the inaugural President of the North Dakota Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. I am a career member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a member by invitation only of The National Trial Lawyers. I am a member of the National College for DUI Defense.
